Join us for an interactive lunch and networking session where professionals in the insurance, re-insurance and dispute resolution industries discuss the latest trends in the landscape related to international insurance disputes, as well as the role that alternative dispute resolution processes and mechanisms, including institutional mediation, can play in such disputes.
We will also discuss the idea of whether and to what extent a neutral mediator can play a role in bridging impasses in the midst of an insurance M&A deal. Topics discussed include:
- The impact of recent trends (particularly EFG and AI) and geopolitical uncertainties (war, sanctions, Red Sea blockades) on the disputes related to the general, D&O, professional indemnity and reinsurance markets;
- The extent to which ADR (particularly mediation and the Singapore Mediation Convention 2019) has facilitated the resolution of international insurance disputes;
- Common legal issues that may cause an impasse in deal or dispute negotiations;
- The extent or utility of mandatory mediation as a dispute resolution mechanism in M&A deals.
- Is there a role for neutral mediator in an M&A transaction / when there is an impasse in M&A negotiations?

He is an experienced lawyer of more than 30 years, working out of Beijing, Hong Kong, Sydney and Singapore. Prior to joining SIMC, he served as General Counsel of IBM Greater China and Nortel Networks Asia Pacific for about 20 years.
Wee Meng has advised senior leadership of MNCs as lead counsel on legal and regulatory issues arising out of doing business in Greater China, India, Japan, Korea, ASEAN, Australia and New Zealand. As an active board member of US-China JVs, he has managed a wide range of emerging market risks with leading international best practices.
Leveraging his deep regional experience, Wee Meng is currently leading SIMC to promote mediation to resolve complex, commercial cross-border disputes in the Asia Pacific region. He has trained Judges, Senior Lawyers and Businesses across Asia in international mediation trainings and workshops.
Wee Meng is an accredited mediator of the Singapore International Mediation Institute. He graduated with a law degree from the National University of Singapore and holds a Master of Laws from the University of Hong Kong. He is called to the Singapore Bar and Hong Kong’s Roll of Solicitors.

He is an experienced litigator and has conducted trials and appeals in both the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal. He has also acted as counsel in landmark decisions and has been recognised as a Leading Individual in his insurance practice by leading publications Chambers Asia-Pacific, AsiaLaw, Legal 500 and Who’s Who Legal. Anparasan is an active mediator with Singapore International Mediation Institute and Singapore International Mediation Centre and has successfully mediated numerous contentious issues.

Associate Director (Litigation and Contingent Risks) of AonCathryn leads the litigation and contingent risk solutions offering in the Aon Asia Transaction Solutions team. She has a broad commercial disputes practice with experience in international arbitration, litigation, insolvency and restructuring, and mediation.
Prior to joining Aon, she practiced at a leading international law firm and a boutique disputes firm in Singapore. She also assisted arbitral tribunals as tribunal secretary for leading arbitrator, Dr Michael Hwang SC. An accredited mediator with the Singapore Mediation Centre, she is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb) and the Singapore Institute of Arbitrators (SIArb). She was recently shortlisted as a finalist in Euromoney’s APAC Women in Business Law 2022 and 2023 awards under the category of Rising Star (Arbitration). She is qualified in Singapore, England & Wales, and Australia.

managing Energy, Construction, Machinery Breakdown, Delay Start-Up and Business
Interruption claims.
Prior to joining Aon, Clarence worked with global reinsurance firms leading their major and
complex losses in the region. Having specialty experience as Lead Reinsurer in the
Facultative and Treaty markets, Clarence presents a unique value proposition to Aon’s clients
underpinned with the optimisation of pay-outs from their insurance solutions.
In his current role, Clarence is a member of Aon’s Global Construction & Infrastructure
Leadership team and a member of Aon’s Global Claims Leadership team delivering significant
client value through Aon’s governance and escalation protocols, and dedicated Claims
Advocacy.
In his broader industry engagement, Clarence continues active contribution with the
