SIMC Holds Specialist Mediators Empanelment Ceremony & Lunch at Seoul ADR Festival
Presenting to you our newly empanelled Specialist Mediators.
Twenty senior practitioners, in-house counsel, and industry leaders joined the Singapore International Mediation Centre’s (SIMC) specialist mediator panel on 7 November 2022. They received their certificates of empanelment at the empanelment ceremony and lunch hosted by SIMC Chairman, Mr George Lim, its CEO Mr Chuan Wee Meng, on the first day of the Seoul ADR Festival (SAF).
Their empanelment brings the total of SIMC’s Specialist Mediators to 240 who have been trained over the last four years in Singapore, China, India, Japan and South Korea. Together, they represent a diverse group of senior professionals comprising 12 nationalities speaking 13 languages and dialects, spanning 17 industry sectors across seven jurisdictions.

In his congratulatory remarks, Mr George Lim noted that SIMC had held two Specialist Mediator Workshops in Korea since 2018. There would have been three by now, if not for the Covid-19 pandemic. The keen interest from Korean lawyers is clearly a testament to the increasing recognition of mediation as an effective mode of alternative dispute resolution and the desire to support the growing practice of mediation in Korea. Mr Lim was hopeful that South Korea would soon ratify the Singapore Convention on Mediation.
The ceremony, which was also attended by alumni of the first Specialist Mediator Workshop in South Korea, took on a special significance, taking place during SAF. SAF was first launched in 2015 by KCAB INTERNATIONAL and has since grown into an internationally-recognized week-long ADR event comprising nearly 40 talks, panels, socials and networking opportunities.
