Singapore International Mediation Centre (SIMC)’s Post

SIMC was honoured to be part of an ADR Strategy Country Exchange in Kuala Lumpur, #Malaysia from August 20 to 22, 2023.   The Judicial Exchange on Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) was organised for the #Pakistan Supreme Court-Led #ADR Task Force. The goal of the program was to support the Pakistan ADR Task Force on developing a national ADR framework and strategy.   The Exchange was held by the Commercial Law Development Program (CLDP) of the United States Department of Commerce, a program that helps emerging economies improve their policy, legal, and regulatory conditions for trade, investment, and commercial activity. We are grateful to Zmarak KhanCristen Bauer and Sydney Dinenberg for inviting us to help and share our knowledge and experiences.   The exchange was hosted by the Malaysian Judiciary and opened by the Chief Justice of Malaysia. The program gathered Judges from Supreme Court and High Courts of Pakistan, and representatives from Law & Justice Commission of Pakistan, Judges from the Federal Court of MalaysiaMinistry of Law, Singapore, Singapore International Mediation Centre (SIMC) and the ADR Program at the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.   Singapore was represented by SIMC’s CEO Mr Wee Meng Chuan, SIMC Specialist Mediator Mr Imran Khwaja SIMC’s International Mediator Mr Seng Onn Loong, Jasmine Chin-Sabado, Director, Policy Advisory Division, Ministry of Law, Singapore and SIMC’s Counsel Siddharth Jha.   Experts from Singapore discussed about the legislations and institutions playing a pivotal role in evolution of #Mediation. The discussions helped in strategizing a roadmap for development of mediation in Pakistan.   We are keen to follow the ADR development in Pakistan and look forward to seeing mediation flourish in Pakistan’s legal landscape.
