New Specialist Mediators empanelled during Singapore Convention Week
Presenting to you our 22 newly empanelled Specialist Mediators with their trainers and guest-of-honour Ms Rahayu Mahzam
Twenty-two senior practitioners, in-house counsel and industry leaders joined the Singapore International Mediation Centre’s (SIMC) specialist mediator panel on 31 August 2022. They received their certificates of empanelment from Senior Parliamentary Secretary (Law and Health) Rahayu Mahzam in a ceremony at the Singapore Business Federation during Singapore Convention Week. The Week, organised by Singapore’s Ministry of Law, commemorates the 2019 establishment of the Singapore Convention for Mediation and comprises a series of legal and dispute resolution-related events, including the UNCITRAL Academy Conference and capacity-building workshops.
In her congratulatory remarks, Ms Rahayu noted that the latest empanelment brought the total number of SIMC specialist mediators to over 220, comprising 12 nationalities across seven jurisdictions, speaking 13 languages and dialects, working in 17 industry sectors.
A former family lawyer herself, Ms Rahayu said this diversity is impressive. She remarked that having such a multi-nationality, multi-cultural, multi-linguistic and multi-disciplinary panel like this has become essential in today’s globalised world, with transactions increasingly involving parties from multiple jurisdictions, each with their own business environment, cultural nuances and legal frameworks.
Guest-of-Honour Ms Rahayu Mahzam mingled with attendees over lunch. Guests were delighted to reconnect in person post-pandemic.
