It is my joy to share with you that, with your strong support, mediation is on the RISE:
- UK signed the Singapore Convention on Mediation (SCM) last week on 3 May, bringing the total number of signatories to 56 states;
- Uruguay became the 11th state to ratify the SCM on 28 Mar;
- SIMC were honoured to be the special guests of International Arbitration & Mediation Centre (IAMC) as IAMC celebrated their inaugural India Mediation Day on 16 April;
- SIMC conducted a 2-day Specialist Mediator’s Workshop for 20 leading Indian practitioners and GCs in Hyderabad with the support of IAMC on 14-15 April, and will hold an upcoming Specialist Mediator’s Workshop in Tokyo in collaboration with Japan International Mediation Centre on 19-20 May; and
- SIMC crossed a total aggregate of 300 case filings last month (started with 2 cases in 2014), with the largest single case dispute value to-date exceeding several billion US dollars.
With the Singapore Convention Week in about 4 months, please “save-the-date” for our annual celebration with SIMC Signature Event at 10am, 30 August (Wed), Shangri-la Hotel. This Signature Event will bring together leaders of multi-national corporations, senior advocates and business professionals that recognise the benefits and use of mediation. We will have a joint declaration in support of mediation. More details will be shared in our next newsletter, please stay tuned!

| SIMC traveled to India after a gap of almost four years to reconnect with our Indian partners after the COVID lockdown. The trip to India in April 2023 was filled with an exciting lineup of events and engagements with old and new collaborations. SIMC visited our long-time allies CAMP in Bengaluru, held the SIMC India Specialist Mediators Workshop in Hyderabad and had a productive engagement session with Khaitan & Co. in Mumbai. |

| On 6 March 2023, SIMC's CEO Chuan Wee Meng was invited by the Saudi Ministry of Justice to speak at the International Conference on Justice in Riyadh. The 2-day conference featured 25 speakers and 6 main sessions, bringing together experts, jurists, and key decision-makers from the #legal sectors of over 30 countries to discuss the future of technology and digitization in the field of justice. |

| SIMC and IDB (Dewan Sengketa Indonesia) signed an agreement of cooperation in which both institutions agree to consider the possibility of jointly coordinated activities such as workshops, training, or events on topics related to international mediation. Additionally, SIMC's CEO Chuan Wee Meng delivered a keynote online presentation at the IDB Forum, sharing about the global rise of mediation and discussing how Indonesia could benefit from signing and ratifying the Singapore Convention on Mediation. |
