Dear Friend of SIMC,
Q4 has been a very busy and productive quarter for Singapore International Mediation Centre (SIMC). We are capping 2022 with a record number of cases from various industries including exciting areas of development such as cryptocurrency disputes and investor-state disputes.
Just last month, SIMC and the Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration (SCIA) launched the SIMC-SCIA Med-Arb Protocol to allow the recording of any settlement agreement resulting from mediation at SIMC as an arbitral award of the SCIA. The SIMC-SCIA Protocol and MOU extension were among several new joint projects and MOUs signed at the 3rd Singapore-Shenzhen Smart City Initiative Joint Implementation Committee meeting on 25 November. This protocol would be especially useful for parties seeking enforcement in China and potentially under the New York Convention. Please contact SIMC should you require more information. |

To wrap up an eventful year, Mr. Lim, Mr. Chuan, and SIMC Vice-Chairman Mr. Lok Vi Ming SC attended the Japan International Mediation Center (JIMC)-Kyoto's 4th Anniversary mock mediation and lecture on 21 November 2022. This unique role-playing event showcased a distinctive feature of the JIMC-SIMC Joint Protocol: co-mediation. Besides visiting Japanese and International law firms to share the latest developments in international mediation, and reconnecting with SIMC’s Japan-based Specialist Mediators over lunch, they also met with young Japanese and Singaporean lawyers working in Tokyo. |
